Hello and welcome to the Fifth Estate! A home for all of my inner thoughts and ramblings that I have deemed worthy enough to be shared with the world.
At the time of writing this post, I have been in self-isolation for 86 days with the UK trailing ever-so-slightly behind. With the break from uni and work, I found myself writing a lot of political pieces and commentaries in lieu of having these discussions down the pub. I never had any intentions of publishing these to the world but with so much time on my hands, why not?
I was writing down some of these thoughts in an old notebook I had used for my Journalism and Media elective last semester. In my effort to find a page I came across my notes from a lecture on the four estates and how the media played a key role in upholding democracy. It seemed fitting to me that given that today anybody can create and post their own blog, website, and opinion without any prerequisite or justification that this blog becomes something that adds to that.
Thus, the Fifth Estate was born!
Not everything I post on here will be political, nor will it be relevant. In fact, I should be surprised if it takes the form of anything coherent or regular. Regardless, if you find yourself here, then thank you. I hope you enjoy what you read and if you don't please feel free to take me up about it.
Thanks again,
Liam.
